About
Carswell Press aims to produce classic or out-of-print texts in a consistent format, with high quality readable fonts, typesetting, and cover designs.
Many classic library imprints available unfortunately suffer from readability problems:
- Small or blurry fonts
- Typesetting issues; eg. no allocation of space for a glutter
- Inconsistency with notes; sometimes placed as footnotes, sometimes only in a general notes section in the back of the book.
- Bad/tacky modern art (technically not related to readability, and yes it is subjective), or the same generic image used for all texts from a particular imprint
- Over reliance on Optical Character Recognition (OCR) with no human oversight, often leading to corrupted text
- General bad quality printing: you know it when you see it
Even from large publishers there is no consistent print quality; certain titles suffer from some of the above issues as well.
Our goal is to ensure that our texts are always consistent, ensuring maximum comfort and enjoyment when reading, and guaranteeing they look great on display.
